Camping is an amazing way to connect with nature and disconnect from technology. It’s also a great way to spend time with your friends and family. One of the best parts of camping is eating—especially breakfast! We’ve rounded up some of our favorite, super simple, easy-to-make, delicious camping breakfast ideas.
Table of Contents
Omelets
Eggs are an excellent source of protein and can be used to make omelets, which pack a lot of protein in a small package. Omelets are easy to transport, store and eat—and they’re also easy to clean up.
Burritos
To make burritos, you’ll need:
- Ingredients
- Foil (or an aluminum pan)
- A cooler to store your food in
First, prepare all the ingredients and place them in a cooler. Then wrap each ingredient individually in foil (be sure to cover all exposed surfaces of the food with foil; this will prevent it from getting dirty while camping).
Now you’re ready to cook over an open fire! When everything’s been heated through, use two hands to pick up one end of each burrito and fold it into itself so that it forms a cylinder. After folding, wrap each one tightly with more foil and put them back into your cooler.
Pancakes
- Mix pancake batter.
- Heat a griddle over medium-low heat and brush it with butter.
- Pour a ladleful of batter onto the griddle and spread it around with the back of your spoon, or another utensil of your choice. You’ll know when it’s ready to flip when bubbles appear on top and look like they are about to burst through the surface (about 3–4 minutes). Flip and cook for a minute more on each side until golden brown. Repeat this process until you’ve used up all your batter, keeping in mind that some pancakes will take longer than others (see below). If you want an extra treat, drizzle some honey over them before serving!
Biscuits and gravy
Biscuits and gravy is a great way to start the day. If you’re camping, it’s also an excellent way to use up leftover gravy from dinner the night before. You can make biscuits and gravy ahead of time, so all you have to do in the morning is pop them in the oven for breakfast.
Biscuits and gravy is versatile too: you can use almost any kind of meat for this dish, whether it’s sausage or bacon strips (or both). You can also substitute soy milk for cow’s milk if your diet restricts dairy products.
French toast
- Use a bread that is not too dense.
- Use a batter that is not too thick.
- Use a pan that is not too hot.
- Use an oven mitt to handle the pan when it’s hot!
- Non-stick pans are great for this purpose! If you don’t have one, go buy one—they’re only $10 at Walmart! Or if you prefer to spend more money (or if there isn’t a Walmart near where you live), get yourself some non-stick spray instead. Just make sure it says “non-stick” on the label; otherwise, it won’t work very well for making French toast sticks in your campfire!
- You’ll also need some kindling and logs for your fire pit before starting cooking breakfast; learn more about how to build one here: [link]
Breakfast sandwiches
Breakfast sandwiches are easy to make and a great way to use ingredients you already have on hand. They can also be made ahead of time and frozen until you’re ready to eat them, so you can get a head start on the morning’s meal.
The best part? You can customize them with whatever ingredients are available at your campsite or in the store.
Hash browns and hot dogs
- Buy frozen hash browns and thaw them in the fridge overnight.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat, add 1/4 cup oil and coat bottom of pan completely before adding potatoes (they should sizzle when you put them in). Cook for about 3 minutes on each side, until golden brown on both sides and cooked through (the edges will be crispy).
- Dump onto a paper towel-lined plate, season with salt and pepper to taste, then enjoy!
Bacon, egg and cheese breakfast pizza
- Prepare the pizza dough.
- Prepare the eggs, cheese, bacon and pizza sauce according to your tastes.
- Cook the egg and bacon on a hot pan (you might want to use a non-stick pan).
- Make sure that both sides of these ingredients are cooked well before assembling them on top of the pizza dough (this will help avoid making a mess).
- Spread out some tomato paste over the top of your cooked egg and bacon so they don’t stick to each other while baking in oven (this will also protect your pizza from burning).
- Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes or until golden brown color appears on top surface of prepared item(s)
With some creativity and pre-cooking, you can plan a delicious breakfast on your camping trip.
With some creativity and pre-cooking, you can plan a delicious breakfast on your camping trip.
- You can cook items in the morning. Some foods are easy to prepare ahead of time and just reheat when you’re ready to eat them.
- You can cook ingredients ahead of time as well. If you’re going to be out for more than one night, it’s worth the effort to prepare several components of your meal before leaving home. For example, if there are eggs in your recipe (like muffins), hard boil them before leaving so they’ll be ready by breakfast time! Or fry up some bacon or sausage patties early in the morning so they’ll be hot and crispy when it’s time for everyone else at campground to eat their breakfasts (or brunch).
- Plan out what food items need prepared first—and then do it! It’s not always possible to do everything ahead of time because some meals require fresh produce or meat that needs preparing right away. But if there are certain aspects that don’t require time-sensitive tasks like chopping vegetables or thawing meats then try planning those out beforehand so they don’t slow down prep work later on during outdoor cooking sessions.
