Something you shouldnt miss is the experience of visiting
the Nautilus Museum (Sea Shell museum) with its impressive and
interesting tour.
After 40 years of hard work, thousands of findings from the seas
all over the world and Greece are exhibited at the Nautilus Museum.
The museum was funded with the intention to bring visitors close
to the sea world.
In the show room it is easy for one to realize just how these
organisms, which were the first living organisms on earth billions
of years ago, gave knowledge to man, as well as providing in various
ways, many civilized elements.
They helped to mold architectural styles such as the Ionic style
and inspired artists and musicians. They assisted in the coloring
( porfyra) of clothes for the Royalty in some eras, and were made
into jewellery for women. With their structure, shape and colour,
they contributed to medicine and technology. They also became
monetary units and in general they helped in the creation of a
harmonious environment.
At the museam, you will also have the chance to admire mosaic
paintings made by shells, sea-urchin and semi precious stones.
If you like you can place an order for your portrait to be made.
We believe that you will be impressed by the handmade jewellery
collection, made with shells and semi precious stones combined
with silver, as well as with the rest of the souvenirs that you
can find here, keeping the memory of your visit to the Nautilus
Museum forever.
